Nowitzki searching for rhythm as Mavericks take on 76ers

Nov 13, 2007 - 3:21 PM Philadelphia (2-4) at Dallas (4-2) 8:30 pm EST

DALLAS (Ticker) - Dirk Nowitzki tries to return to his MVP form on Tuesday when the Dallas Mavericks face the Philadelphia 76ers.

Nowitzki was perhaps the NBA's best shooter last season, making 50.2 percent of his shots from the field - the only player in the league to attempt over 1,250 shots and make at least half - and 41.6 percent from 3-point range.

The 29-year-old forward also averaged 24.6 points, 8.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists last season en route to his first MVP award.

Nowitzki has yet to find his stroke in the new campaign, hitting just 43.8 percent from the field and a dismal 27.8 percent (5-of-18) from 3-point range.

After suffering a 91-82 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday, Nowitzki and the Mavericks are happy to return to the American Airlines Center, where they are 2-0 this season after posting an NBA-best 36-5 record last season.

Like Nowitzki, 76ers superstar Andre Iguodala is also trying to find his true form. After opening the season with 23 and 22 points in his first two games, Iguodala has been held below 20 points in three of his last four contests.
