Davis, Warriors try for first win vs. Pistons

Nov 14, 2007 - 2:32 PM Detroit (5-2) at Golden State (0-5) 10:30 pm EST

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- The Golden State Warriors hope to pick up their first win of the season against one of the Eastern Conference's best squads on Wednesday when they face the Detroit Pistons.

Baron Davis has averaged 24.8 points and 8.8 assists over the first five games, but Golden State has failed to register a win over the first two weeks of the campaign.

The 28-year-old point guard scored 37 points against the Dallas Mavericks, the team which they upset in the first round of the playoffs last season, but he missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer in the waning seconds of the 120-115 setback. Davis has now missed three straight practices due to swelling in his left knee.

Detroit is in the middle of its West Coast road trip and failed to win a third straight game, falling to the Portland Trail Blazers, 102-94. The Piston will look for a better outing from Richard Hamilton, who collected 14 points on 5-of-20 shooting.

The Pistons have split the first two games of a five-game road trip.

Chauncey Billups has been excellent at the point for the Pistons, dishing out 55 assists to just 17 turnovers.
