Hornets aiming for best start in franchise history

Nov 16, 2007 - 2:52 PM New Orleans (7-2) at Memphis (2-5) 8:00 pm EST

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) - The New Orleans Hornets go for a franchise best record on Friday when they take on the Memphis Grizzlies.

A win on Friday would give the Hornets eight wins in their first 10 games - setting the franchise record for the best start at 8-2.

New Orleans continued its four-game winning streak on Wednesday, cruising to a 95-76 rout over the Philadelphia 76ers. Morris Peterson scored 27 points to lead the Hornets to victory.

Peterson converted 6-of-9 shots from 3-point range and made all seven of his attempts at the free-throw line. The 30-year-old Michigan State product is averaging 10.2 points a game while making over half of his shots from the field.

Rudy Gay has led the Grizzlies offense this season, averaging a team-high 20.6 points per game. The eighth overall pick in the 2006 draft is putting his disappointing rookie year behind him as he averaged just 10.9 points per game in his first season.
