Magic, Hornets put winning streaks on the line

Nov 19, 2007 - 2:36 PM Orlando (9-2) at New Orleans (9-2) 8:00 pm EST

NEW ORLEANS (Ticker) - The surging Orlando Magic just topped one of the best teams in the East. Now they must tangle with one of the best from the West.

Orlando looks to extend its winning streak to a season-high five games when it visits Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets on Monday.

Dwight Howard scored 24 points and Rashard Lewis added 22 as the Magic dealt the Boston Celtics their first setback of the season with Sunday's 104-102 triumph.

Orlando is an NBA-best 6-0 on the road.

The most intriguing matchup should be Howard and New Orleans big man Tyson Chandler, who is one of the NBA's best young shot-blockers.

After battling through early struggles in coach Stan Van Gundy's offensive scheme, Magic guard Jameer Nelson has bounced back to regain his form. He is averaging 18.0 points and eight assists in his last three games.

Despite the absence of Chris Paul, the Hornets were able to post a 100-82 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday. Peja Stojakovic led the charge with 22 points.

The 22-year-old Paul missed the game due to a sprained right ankle suffered in Friday's overtime win at Memphis. His status for this contest is uncertain.
