Nuggets seek seventh consecutive win

Nov 21, 2007 - 3:37 PM Denver (8-3) at LA Clippers (5-4) 10:30 pm EST

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Perhaps a trip to Tinseltown will slow down Carmelo Anthony and the red-hot Denver Nuggets.

The surging Nuggets shoot for their seventh straight win Wednesday when they visit the Los Angeles Clippers.

A preseason favorite to contend for the Northwest Division title, Denver was routed in emphatic fashion in a 119-93 loss to the Boston Celtics on November 7.

But the Nuggets have not lost since, averaging 115 points while holding opponents to 94.2 points during their six-game winning streak.

Anthony scored 26 points and Allen Iverson added 22 and three steals in Tuesday's 112-91 triumph over the slumping Chicago Bulls.

Known mostly for their offensive prowess, the Nuggets have switched their focus to defense as they have held three straight opponents to 40 percent or less.

"It is easy to dominate when you have a defensive presence," Denver coach George Karl said. "This team has been playing better defense than I thought they would be at this time."

While the Nuggets are riding high, the Clippers have had to deal with yet another loss due to injury.

Los Angeles swingman Corey Maggette is expected to be sidelined for two to three weeks with a nagging right hamstring strain. The 6-6 Maggette leads the team in scoring at 19.8 per game.

Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy is juggling his lineup due to the losses of Elton Brand (left Achilles), rookie Al Thornton (ankle) and Shaun Livingston (torn knee ligaments).

Los Angeles has dropped four of its last five contests, including a 92-73 setback to the Chicago Bulls on Saturday.
