Shorthanded Wizards aim to continue winning streak

Nov 23, 2007 - 3:50 PM Golden State (3-7) at Washington (6-5) 7:00 pm EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Washington Wizards have found a way to win their last two games without Gilbert Arenas. It is a trend they will have to prolong for quite some time.

The Wizards aim to continue their success without Arenas when they return home Friday to host the Golden State Warriors.

Washington received some sobering news Wednesday when Arenas underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus. The Wizards' leading scorer, Arenas will be sidelined at least three months.

Just hours after learning of Arenas' medical status, the Wizards delivered an inspiring performance against the Charlotte Bobcats, rallying for a 114-111 overtime victory.

Caron Butler scored 39 points - including seven in overtime - for the Wizards, who have reeled off six straight wins since opening the season 0-5.

Washington next will take on Golden State, which had its three-game winning streak snapped Wednesday with a 105-82 loss to the Boston Celtics.

Reserve Monta Ellis led Golden State with 21 points, and Stephen Jackson had 15 points and five rebounds.
