Raptors look to push winning streak to four games
Dec 1, 2007 - 1:56 PM Toronto (9-7) at Washington (7-9) 7:00 pm ESTWASHINGTON (Ticker) - The Toronto Raptors look to extend their winning streak to four games on Saturday as they face the Washington Wizards.
Andrea Bargnani scored 26 points and Carlos Delfino chipped in 24 off the bench, leading Toronto to a 91-82 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday.
Toronto was without the services of star forward Chris Bosh, who sat due to a strained groin. Bosh leads the Raptors in scoring (18.8 ppg) and rebounding (7.9 rpg).
Caron Butler scored 20 points and Antawn Jamison had 16 points and 11 rebounds for Washington, which returns home after dropping an 85-84 decision at Philadelphia on Friday.
Since reeling off a six-game winning streak, the Wizards have gone just 1-4. The Wizards will retire Hall of Famer Earl Monroe's No. 10 jersey in a special halftime ceremony. He was inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame in 1990, and was named to the 50th Anniversary All-Time Team in 1996.
Monroe is set to join Wes Unseld, Elvin Hayes and Gus Johnson among the franchise's retired numbers.
"This is a great honor," Monroe said. "I was drafted by the Bullets and it was in Baltimore where I started my professional career. It was four great years with a lot of fond memories. It was a wonderful experience. My four years with the Bullets set the tone for the rest of my career, and now it brings me full circle with my number being retired."
Drafted by Washington out of Winston-Salem State with the second overall pick in 1967, Monroe was dubbed 'Earl The Pearl' during his playing career. As a Baltimore Bullet, he earned Rookie of the Year honors in 1968 after averaging 24.3 points, 5.7 boards and 4.3 assists.
