Warriors, Magic put respective winning stretches to test
Dec 3, 2007 - 4:11 PM Orlando (15-4) at Golden State (9-7) 10:30 pm ESTOAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Two of the hottest teams in the NBA collide Monday when the Orlando Magic head to Oracle Arena to face the Golden State Warriors.
The Magic are off to a 15-4 start in their first season under coach Stan Van Gundy, matching the best start in the franchise's 19-year history. The team had the same record to begin the 1994-95 campaign and matched that the following season.
Orlando is also 11 games over .500 for the first time since finishing the strike-delayed 1998-99 season 33-17, and leads the NBA with a 10-2 road mark.
The Magic rallied for 1 104-97 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday.
Rashard Lewis scored 18 points while Dwight Howard collected 17 points and eight rebounds for Orlando, which improved to 3-1 on its five-game road trip.
The Warriors have played amazingly well since an 0-6 start, winning nine of their last 10 games - including their last six - to climb back up the Pacific Division standings.
The hot streak coincides with the return of forward and team captain Stephen Jackson from his season-opening six-game suspension.
Jackson and Al Harrington scored 20 points apiece Sunday as Golden State held on for a 109-96 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics.
