Nets try to continue winning ways against Knicks

Dec 5, 2007 - 3:27 PM New York (5-11) at New Jersey (9-9) 7:30 pm EST

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) - The New Jersey Nets look to continue their recent surge when they host the New York Knicks on Wednesday.

The Nets have won five of their last seven games - including a 100-79 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday. Richard Jefferson paced New Jersey in the contest, scoring a season-high 36 points.

Jefferson is putting together perhaps his best season, averaging 25.4 points and 4.9 rebounds a game. The 27-year-old forward has scored at least 30 points in three of his last six games.

The Knicks are beginning to find their rhythm as a team, winning three of their last five games after a season-high eight game-losing streak.

However, New York failed to win back-to-back games on Sunday, suffering a 115-104 loss to the Phoenix Suns as Stephon Marbury and David Lee each scored a team-high 21 points.

The Knicks will be without Marbury on Wednesday after his father died on Sunday night. The point guard will be preparing for the funeral, which is scheduled for Thursday.
