Spurs take on Jazz with Duncan sidelined

SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- The San Antonio Spurs managed a victory in their first game without Tim Duncan.

The Spurs go for back-to-back wins without their All-Star on Friday when they host the Utah Jazz.

San Antonio edged the Dallas Mavericks, 97-95, on Wednesday as Duncan sat out with a bruised knee and sprained ankle, which he suffered against the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday while battling for position with James Jones.

Manu Ginobili, who made his first start of the season in place of the injured Duncan, scored a season-high 37 points as the Spurs remained a perfect 11-0 at home this season.

The Jazz had a three-game win streak snapped in their last game on Tuesday, suffering a 117-107 setback to the Sacramento Kings.

The loss was just Utah's second in its last eight games as they continue to lead the Northwest division. However, the Jazz have been far better at home then on the road, posting just a 5-5 record away from Energy Solutions Arena.
