Nets hope to avoid third straight loss

Dec 9, 2007 - 2:18 PM New Jersey (9-11) at Washington (9-10) 7:00 pm EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) - The New Jersey Nets look to avoid a third straight loss when they visit the Washington Wizards on Sunday.

New Jersey is coming off a 96-89 home to loss to Houston on Friday, a game marked by the return of Jason Kidd two days after the eight-time All-Star missed a game due to a migraine. Not everyone bought that excuse, sparking some reports that Kidd was staging a personal one-day strike to induce a trade or force a new contract.

Kidd is under contract through the end of next season, making $19.7 million this season and $21.3 million in 2007-08. The 13-year veteran is second in the league to Steve Nash, averaging 10.3 assists.

Washington enters off a 122-107 home to Phoenix. The Wizards played virtually no defense as the Suns had 42 assists on 50 baskets.

On November 18, the Nets rallied for an 87-85 win over the Wizards.
