Pistons look to continue dominance of Grizzlies

Dec 21, 2007 - 2:55 PM Memphis (8-17) at Detroit (18-7) 8:00 pm EST

AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- After beating the team with the NBA's best record, Chauncey Billups and the Detroit Pistons set their sights against one of the league's worst teams.

Two days after dispatching the Boston Celtics in dramatic fashion, the Pistons return home Friday to host the lowly Memphis Grizzlies.

Billups drilled two free throws with one-tenth of a second remaining Wednesday to lift Detroit to an 87-85 victory over the Celtics, who dropped their first home game of the season.

Billups, who leads the Pistons with an average of 18.3 points per game, is averaging 22.9 in his last seven contests.

Detroit has dominated the all-time series with the Grizzlies, winning the last five meetings and 18 of 23. Billups has been particularly effective against Memphis, averaging 23.6 points in the last five games.

The Grizzlies are coming off an 88-85 victory over San Antonio on Wednesday, thanks to a 3-pointer by Rudy Gay at the buzzer.

Gay has averaged 29 points in his last three games and leads the Grizzlies at 19.7 points per game.
