Red-hot Trail Blazers go for 14th straight win

Dec 31, 2007 - 11:30 AM Portland (18-12) at Utah (16-16) 8:00 pm EST

SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- The Portland Trail Blazers continue to be the surprise of the season so far.

Portland will be going for its 14th straight win when it visits the struggling Utah Jazz on Monday.

The winning streak is the second-longest in franchise history and three away from the record of 16 set during the 1990-91 campaign.

The Blazers used a 21-0 run bridging the third and fourth quarters and outscored Philadelphia 76ers, 35-9, in the final period to rally for a 97-72 victory on Sunday.

Portland, led by Brandon Roy's 22.8 points per game during the streak, has also beaten Utah twice over the 13 games.

The Jazz have lost 11 of 14, including a 104-98 setback to the Boston Celtics on Saturday. Another loss would also put Utah below .500 for the first time all season.

Carlos Boozer has been putting up All-Star numbers, averaging 24.5 points and 11.5 rebounds this season. He is averaging 25.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in the two games against Portland this season.
