Streaking Suns set to face Sonics
Jan 3, 2008 - 2:54 PM Seattle (9-22) at Phoenix (22-9) 10:30 pm ESTPHOENIX (Ticker) - The Phoenix Suns have won three in a row behind the dominant duo of Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire.
The Suns will go for four straight when they host the lowly Seattle SuperSonics on Thursday.
Stoudemire leads Phoenix in scoring at 21.8 points per game, but is averaging 30 points and 14 rebounds in the past three games. Nash, as usual, has directed the offense and leads the NBA in assists per game at 12.4.
The highest scoring team in the league at 109.4 points per games, Phoenix will be a tough test for the Sonics, who allow 104.4 points per game - third worst in the NBA.
Seattle could be without top scorer and Rookie of the Year candidate Kevin Durant, who missed Monday's 98-90 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers with a sprained left index finger. He suffered the injury in the first quarter of Saturday's win over Minnesota.
Durant is one of many youngsters on the Sonics, who are in the first year of a rebuilding process that began with the selections of Durant and No. 5 overall pick Jeff Green in last June's NBA Draft.
The Suns earned a 106-99 victory over Seattle in their season opener behind 23 points from Stoudemire and 12 assists from Nash. Durant led the Sonics with 27 points in the loss.
