Kidd seeks third straight double-double

Jan 8, 2008 - 2:16 PM New Jersey (17-16) at Charlotte (11-21) 7:00 pm EST

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (Ticker) - Already a triple-double machine, Jason Kidd will try to reach a level even he has never hit.

Kidd will attempt to become the first player in 11 seasons to record three consecutive triple-doubles when he leads the New Jersey Nets against the Charlotte Bobcats on Tuesday.

Having registered back-to-back triple-doubles on 11 different occasions throughout his career - including once already this season - Kidd would become the first player since the Detroit Pistons' Grant Hill accomplished the feat during the 1996-97 season.

His latest noteworthy performance came over the weekend in consecutive wins on Friday and Saturday over the Bobcats and Atlanta Hawks, respectively. Kidd had 11 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds in Friday's 102-96 win over Charlotte, then followed that with 10 points, 14 assists and 13 boards in a 113-107 victory at Atlanta one day later for his 96th career triple-double.

Those two wins have contributed to a season-high five-game winning streak.

The Bobcats are headed in the opposite direction, having lost seven of their last eight. Not even Gerald Wallace, who has averaged 26.4 points and 8.2 rebounds over the last five games, has been able to stop the slide.

Wallace had 25 points and five assists - but eight turnovers - in Sunday's 93-89 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.
