Celtics look to push streak to 10 vs. Bobcats
Jan 9, 2008 - 2:16 PM Charlotte (12-21) at Boston (29-3) 7:30 pm ESTBOSTON (Ticker) -- The Boston Celtics have the best record in the NBA, but they have yet to post a double-digit winning streak.
The Celtics will be looking to change that when they host the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday.
Also owning the league's best home record at 16-1, the Celtics have put together winning streaks of eight and nine games this season. On Wednesday, they seek their first 10-game run.
Win No. 9 on the current streak came Saturday night in an emotional 92-85 victory over the Detroit Pistons - Boston's closest competitors in the Eastern Conference. Rookie Glen Davis scored 20 points off the bench and Paul Pierce added 19 as the Celtics avenged one of their losses from earlier in the season.
Newcomer Kevin Garnett is making an immediate impact in Boston, especially on the defensive end, where he anchors a squad that allows opponents to shoot just 41.4 percent - the best mark in the NBA. The perennial All-Star forward is averaging 19.1 points and 10.1 rebounds.
The Bobcats enter with an Eastern Conference worst road record of 1-11. The lone win came November 4 at lowly Miami.
Charlotte snapped a three-game losing streak on Tuesday with a 115-99 win over the New Jersey Nets. Jason Richardson scored 25 points as the Bobcats shot a blistering 59 percent (44-of-75).
The Celtics expect to be without guard Ray Allen, who is suffering from a pinched nerve in his neck.
