Kidd goes for fourth straight triple-double

Jan 9, 2008 - 2:27 PM Seattle (9-25) at New Jersey (17-17) 7:30 pm EST

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) - Jason Kidd seeks his fourth straight triple-double when the New Jersey Nets host the struggling Seattle SuperSonics on Wednesday.

Kidd posted his third straight triple-double and 97th of his career with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists Tuesday, as the Nets had a five-game winning streak stopped with a 115-99 loss to the Charlotte Bobcats.

No player had posted three straight triple-doubles since Grant Hill during the 1996-97 season. Michael Jordan (seven straight in 1989) is the last player to register four straight triple-doubles.

But despite the rare accomplishment, Kidd would rather have taken a victory.

"We should have found a way to win this game," Kidd said. "The triple-double doesn't mean anything unless we win."

The Sonics have lost four straight contests and may be without their star rookie Kevin Durant, who tweaked his left ankle in the second half of Tuesday's 95-79 loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"It's feeling better," Durant said. "I tweaked it earlier in the season, so I kept the ankle brace on it throughout the whole year, but I still managed to get it hurt a little bit. Hopefully, it will be all right by (Wednesday) night (at New Jersey)."

It will be the final game of a four-game road trip for Seattle, which has lost its last five games away from home.

The Nets won the first meeting, 98-93, in Seattle on November 23 after being swept by the Sonics in two games last season.
