Pistons try to avoid third straight loss

Jan 10, 2008 - 2:30 PM Detroit (26-9) at San Antonio (23-10) 8:00 pm EST

SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- In the midst of their second two-game losing streak of the season, the Detroit Pistons have an tough test to keep it from stretching to three.

The Pistons visit the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday in a battle of Eastern and Western Conference powers.

The Spurs own the NBA's best home record at 17-2 and are getting healthy again after missing sixth man Manu Ginobili for five games due to a finger injury. Ginobili has totaled 43 points in two games since his return, and played a season-high 41 minutes in Monday's 130-121 loss to the Golden State Warriors.

The 130 points allowed to the Warriors were a season high for San Antonio, which ranks third in the NBA in scoring defense at 92.5 points per game. It was just the fourth time this season that the Spurs allowed more than 100 points.

Detroit is coming off losses to the Boston Celtics and the Dallas Mavericks.

On Wednesday, the Pistons struggled both offensively and defensively in a 102-86 loss to the Mavericks.

Detroit is 13-6 on the road this season, with five of the losses coming against Western Conference foes.

Just 6-7 over its past 13 games, San Antonio has slipped into a first-place tie with Dallas (24-11) in the Southwest Division.
