Spurs go for 17th straight home win over Cavaliers
Nov 3, 2006 - 2:46 PM Cleveland (1-0) at San Antonio (1-0) 8:00 pm ESTSAN ANTONIO (Ticker) - The San Antonio Spurs seek their 17th straight home win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday.
The Spurs have not lost at home to the Cavaliers since December 8, 1988. They have no plans of making November 3, 2006 a significant date for the Cavaliers franchise, but do for their own.
Another home-opening win for San Antonio would draw it even with Phoenix and Minnesota at 10 straight, marking the third-longest streak in league history.
The Spurs got some revenge for their Game Seven loss in the Western Conference semifinals last season with a 97-91 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday.
Overcoming a sore ankle, Tony Parker scored 19 points and Manu Ginobili added 16 for the Spurs, who pulled out a close contest despite only receiving 13 points from superstar Tim Duncan.
Cleveland started the season by edging the Washington Wizards, 97-94, on Wednesday. LeBron James made a difficult finger roll with 49 seconds left to give the Cavaliers the lead for good. The 6-8 phenom finished with 26 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
Larry Hughes led the way with 27 points and also added nine rebounds and five assists, and Drew Gooden chipped in 14 and 11 boards for Cleveland, which made just 15-of-30 foul shots.
The teams split a pair of meetings last season.
No one has shouted yet.
