Hawks look to stay sharp against slumping Bucks

Jan 16, 2008 - 2:32 PM Atlanta (17-17) at Milwaukee (15-23) 8:00 pm EST

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The Atlanta Hawks made the playoffs the last time they were at .500 this late in the season. Looking to move back over .500, the Hawks visit the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday.

Atlanta has been a lottery team for the better part of the last decade, failing to qualify for the playoffs since the lockout-shortened 1998-99 campaign. But things finally appear to be turning around.

All-Star Joe Johnson is averaging 22.0 points and 5.5 assists while fourth-year pro Josh Smith is beginning to realize his enormous potential, averaging 18.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.2 blocks. Rookie forward Al Horford and swingman Josh Childress also have pitched into the inside-outside attack.

On Tuesday, the Hawks closed out a five-game homestand with their second straight win, a 104-93 triumph over the Denver Nuggets.

Milwaukee is returning home after completing a winless three-game road trip. The Bucks capped that trip with a 98-87 loss to the Utah Jazz on Monday.

On November 17, the Bucks posted a 105-96 win over the Hawks here. Andrew Bogut led the way for the Bucks, collecting 21 points and 10 rebounds.
