Lakers look to complete sweep of Nuggets
Jan 21, 2008 - 2:10 PM Denver (24-15) at LA Lakers (26-12) 10:30 pm ESTLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The shorthanded Los Angeles Lakers look to complete a season sweep of the Denver Nuggets on Monday.
Los Angeles is seeking its first sweep of the Nuggets since taking all four meetings during the 2002-03 campaign when the Lakers captured the NBA title.
Los Angeles routed the Nuggets, 127-99, at home on November 29, then posted a 111-107 win at Denver a week later.
The Lakers are coming off a 106-98 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. Kobe Bryant scored 30 points and Lamar Odom recorded 19 points and 19 rebounds in the defeat.
Lakers big man Kwame Brown hopes to bounce back after getting booed during a lackluster performance on Thursday, when he scored just eight points and committed seven turnovers in 25 minutes.
"I thought it was terrible," Bryant said. "If they want to do that (boo Brown), they can stay home. He's going to be our guy here for two months. He's going to do fine, he's going to play well the next game."
The Lakers need Brown to fill a void left by the absence of Andrew Bynum, who is expected to be sidelined for two months with a left knee injury.
The Nuggets posted their second straight win with Saturday's 111-108 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves behind Allen Iverson, who scored 35 points.
Iverson is averaging 27.2 points and 7.5 assists in 25 career games against the Lakers. In his last matchup with Los Angeles on December 5, the former MVP scored 51 points.
