Nets hope to end seven-game slide

Jan 25, 2008 - 3:34 PM New Jersey (18-24) at Denver (25-16) 9:00 pm EST

DENVER (Ticker) - The slumping New Jersey Nets aim to stop their seven-game losing streak on Friday when they visit the Denver Nuggets.

Despite getting 34 points from Richard Jefferson, New Jersey still came up short in Thursday's 121-119 setback to the Golden State warriors.

"I think its important we responded with a fight, but the objective is to win the game obviously," Nets coach Lawrence Frank said. "We did show some fight, and if you're going to look for a positive, that's one of them."

The Nets haven't lost seven straight since dropping nine in a row from November 10-28, 2004.

Jefferson could have his hands full on the defensive end with Denver All-Star Carmelo Anthony, whose averaging 25.5 points and 7.0 rebounds. However, Anthony remains questionable for this one due to his sprained ankle.

Allen Iverson poured in 29 points and Linas Kleiza added 23 to help the Nuggets hold off the upstart Atlanta Hawks 107-100 on Wednesday for their third win in four games.

Iverson, who was voted as a starter for the Western Conference All-Star team, is averaging an eye-popping 28.5 points over 35 career outings against the Nets.
