Rockets owner donates $10 million to hurricane fund

Aug 29, 2017 - 9:00 PM Houston Rockets owner Leslie Alexander is reportedly donating $10 million to Mayor Sylvester Turner's Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, according to multiple reports.

The team announced Alexander's original $4 million donation but reports circulated Tuesday that he has increased the donation. The Houston Chronicle reported that Alexander doesn't want to bring further attention to himself by making a formal announcement.

"Our hearts are heavy seeing the devastation that so many of our friends, family and neighbors are experiencing," the Rockets said in a statement. "... Please stay safe, Houston."

Recently acquired Rockets point guard Chris Paul donated $50,000 to a fund created by Houston Texans star J.J. Watt, the defensive end posted on Twitter on Monday.

Current and former Rockets players James Harden, Eric Gordon, Patrick Beverley, Dwight Howard and Paul all took to social media to send thoughts and prayers to the people of Houston.

The storm, now classified as a tropical storm, has devastated the Houston area with flooding as a result of unprecedented rainfall totals.
