Biedrins look to follow strong performance vs. Rockets

Jan 29, 2008 - 2:40 PM Golden State (27-18) at Houston (24-20) 8:30 pm EST

HOUSTON (Ticker) - It may be hard for a player to follow up a 26-rebound performance, but Andris Biedrins may be able to do just that if the Houston Rockets' Yao Ming is sidelined for his second straight game.

Biedrins and the Warriors go for their eighth win in 10 games Tuesday when they meet the Rockets, who may be without their 7-6 center again due to a upper respiratory infection.

Golden State is reportedly close to signing free agent and former first-round draft choice forward Chris Webber in order to give Biedrins some rest in the frontcourt.

However, the 6-11 Latvian center may have been sending a message that he doesn't need any help after posting a career-high in rebounds in Sunday's 106-104 victory over the New York Knicks.

"I know my job on the team," Biedrins said. "My job is more on the defensive end, rebound the ball, block shots, and help my teammates. The last couple of games, we have kind of struggled with the rebounds - so I just came out today and was just thinking about rebounding the ball."

Biedrins' chances for a successful encore could be made much easier if Yao is unable to make it back from the infection that kept up out of the Rockets' 97-89 loss to the Utah Jazz on Sunday. Tracy McGrady had 21 points and nine assists for Houston, which lost for just the third time in 12 games.
