Paul, Davis battle as Hornets look for 10th straight win

Jan 30, 2008 - 2:26 PM Golden State (27-19) at New Orleans (32-12) 8:00 pm EST

NEW ORLEANS (Ticker) - The New Orleans Hornets aim for a 10th straight win Wednesday when they face the Golden State Warriors.

Led by MVP-candidate Chris Paul, the Hornets continued their winning ways with a convincing 117-93 rout of the Denver Nuggets on Monday. Paul collected 23 points and 17 assists.

A third-year guard, Paul enters having dished out at least 10 assists in 13 of his last 14 contests.

Paul should have his work cut out in this as he prepares to face Warriors floor general Baron Davis, who is averaging 24.3 points and 7.8 assists in six career games against his former club.

Davis was drafted in 1999 by the Hornets when the franchise was located in Charlotte, but was traded to Golden State during the 2003-04 season.

In their first meeting, Paul had 24 points, 13 assists and five steal to upstage Davis in helping New Orleans come away with an impressive 116-104 victory on January 4.

However, the Hornets' frontcourt was the biggest difference in the win as the trio of Tyson Chandler, Peja Stojakovic and David West combined for 66 points.

Stephen Jackson poured in 25 points and Davis added 21 as in the Warriors' 111-107 loss to the Houston Rockets on Tuesday at the Toyota Center.

Golden State has lost six of its last seven meetings against New Orleans.
