Bosh, Raptors keep Heat slumping
Feb 5, 2008 - 5:06 AM MIAMI (Ticker) -- It didn't take long for Chris Bosh and the Toronto Raptors to heat up.Bosh scored 24 points and Jose Calderon added 11 and 10 assists as the Raptors handed the lowly Miami Heat their fourth straight loss with a 114-82 victory on Monday night.
Andrea Bargnani scored 22 points, Anthony Parker netted 18 and Jason Kapono added 13 for Toronto, which has scored over 100 points in six straight contests.
Toronto dominated the early portion of the game, taking a commanding 33-12 lead after the first quarter. Bosh equaled Miami's scoring output in the opening period on 5-of-6 shooting.
"It would be hard for us to play much better than what we played tonight," Raptors coach Sam Mitchell said.
Calderon dished out six assists in the first as the Raptors made 13-of-19 (68 percent) shots in the quarter. The Heat shot just 6-of-22 (27 percent) from the field as only one player - Alexander Johnson - made more than one basket in the first.
Miami tried to fight back in the next period as Dorell Wright scored four points in an 11-2 run early in the second that cut the deficit to 41-27.
But Toronto still took a 60-41 edge into the break with Bosh scoring 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting in the first half.
"I'm just waiting for our guys to get tired of (losing)," Heat coach Pat Riley said. "If you hate losing, do something else other than what you are doing. They all talk about how much they don't like this, well, they are not doing anything about it effort-wise."
Raptors guard T.J. Ford returned to the court with 9:24 left in the second after missing 24 games while recovering from a contusion of the spinal cord over a month ago.
"I was dedicated and I put forth an effort to come back," Ford said. "I don't think people expected me to come in and do the things that I normally do."
Ford suffered the injury on December 11 against the Atlanta Hawks when he took a frightening spill after getting fouled by rookie forward Al Horford, who unintentionally hit Ford in the face while he was attempting a layup.
Ford landed on his back and his head bounced off the floor, where he laid motionless while being attended to by trainers. In his return on Monday, he finished with four points and four assists in 17 minutes.
Dwyane Wade finished with 12 points for the Heat, who have lost 19 of their last 20 contests.
The Heat fans booed the team for their performance Monday.
"As well they should," Wade said of the disdain from the fans. "You can't fault them for anything they say or do. Our fans are great for us when we are winning and now we are losing and not playing hard. They want to see you play hard and see you be competitive."
The Raptors shot 60 percent (44-of-74) from the field and connected on 10-of-19 (53 percent) from the arc, while the Heat made just 3-of-16 (19 percent) 3-point attempts.
Wright scored 17 points and Johnson collected 10 and 10 rebounds for Miami, which shot 41 percent (31-of-75).
