Maggette, Cassell lead Clippers past Suns

Nov 5, 2006 - 6:42 AM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Corey Maggette wants to be a starter. But for now, he will have to settle for being just a hero.

The subject of trade rumors, Maggette had 23 points and 12 rebounds as the Los Angeles Clippers posted a 114-108 victory over the struggling Phoenix Suns.

Sam Cassell, who sank the game-winning free throws in the Clippers' 96-95 win over Denver on Thursday, made six clutch foul shots in the last 39 seconds to help seal the victory. Cassell was 11-of-11 from the stripe and also finished with 23 points.

After starting for the majority of his six-year career with the Clippers, Maggette has been coming off the bench this season. In his best outing of the campaign, he shot 10-of-17 from the field with all of his points coming in the final three quarters.

Cuttino Mobley scored 18 points and Elton Brand added 15, 10 rebounds and three blocks for Los Angeles, which shot 47 percent (41-of-87). Steve Nash poured in 28 points and dished out 13 assists for the Suns, who have lost three out their first four games.

Shawn Marion scored 25 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, and Kurt Thomas added 15 and 12 for the Suns, who shot 44 percent (40-of-91) and were outrebounded, 54-41.
