Reeling Knicks bracing for Spurs

Feb 8, 2008 - 1:32 PM San Antonio (31-16) at New York (14-35) 7:30 pm EST

NEW YORK (Ticker) - The New York Knicks hope to avoid their second eight-game losing streak of the season when they host the defending champion San Antonio Spurs on Friday.

It is the third losing streak of at least seven games this season for New York, which dropped eight straight from November 9-21, and also endured a seven-game skid from December 21-January 5.

The latest loss for the lowly Knicks was a 103-100 home setback to Indiana on Wednesday. Zach Randolph had 26 points and nine rebounds, making a season-high three 3-pointers in the contest.

The Knicks have lost to the Spurs in five straight meetings and will be looking to avoid a series sweep for the third consecutive season.

Continuing to play without reigning NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Tony Parker, San Antonio has won three straight contests, including an 85-77 victory at Washington on Wednesday.

Tim Duncan led the way with 23 points and nine rebounds but had his streak of four straight double-doubles snapped.

It will be the fourth of a season-high nine-game road trip for the Spurs, who are a mediocre 11-11 away from home this season.
