Paul, Hornets seek season sweep of Grizzlies

Feb 9, 2008 - 11:43 AM Memphis (13-36) at New Orleans (33-15) 8:00 pm EST

NEW ORLEANS (Ticker) - The slumping Memphis Grizzlies hope they finally can slow down All-Star Chris Paul.

Paul and the New Orleans Hornets will look to complete a season-series sweep on Saturday against the Grizzlies.

The 6-foot Paul has been dominate in three wins against Memphis, averaging 37.0 points and 10.6 assists. He has reached the 40-point plateau twice against the Grizzlies as well.

On Wednesday, Paul poured in a season-best 42 points and Peja Stojakovic drilled the game-winning jumper in double-overtime to help New Orleans earn a 132-130 victory at Phoenix.

"It felt like the game was never going to end," Paul said. "But we're a team that shows a lot of perseverance and coach finally made the right call by giving Peja the last shot instead of me."

Rudy Gay had 18 points and 12 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to keep the Grizzlies from dropping their fifth consecutive game, a 92-81 decision to the Dallas Mavericks on Friday.

Newly acquired point guard Javaris Crittenton played his second game with Memphis and scored 10 points in 20 minutes off the bench in that contest.

The 19th overall pick in June's draft, Crittenton along with center Kwame Brown were traded by the Los Angeles Lakers for star center Pau Gasol last week.

Memphis hasn't captured a triumph on the road in this series since March 16, 2005 - a span of five trips.
