Kidd, Nets to host Nowitzki, Mavericks

Feb 10, 2008 - 4:10 PM Dallas (34-15) at New Jersey (21-29) 6:00 pm EST

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) - Since Jason Kidd announced his desire to be traded last month, the Dallas Mavericks have been bandied about as a possible landing destination.

The Mavericks will get to scout Kidd up close and personal when they visit the New Jersey Nets on Sunday.

With the Nets in a tailspin over the past month, losing 12 of their last 15 games, the 34-year-old Kidd is expected to be traded before the February 21 trading deadline. A rumored three-team trade that would have landed Kidd in Dallas weeks ago never came to fruition, but the Mavericks are rumored to remain in the running for the perennial All-Star's services.

Kidd is in the midst of a down season, averaging just 11.3 points per game - the lowest full-season mark of his career - on a career-worst 37 percent shooting. His 3.6 turnovers per game are his worst mark in five years.

Kidd had a big game on Friday, however, recording his 99th career triple-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists to lead New Jersey to a 104-90 win over the lowly Charlotte Bobcats.

Dallas has been rolling lately, winning three in a row and 15 of their last 19 games. All four of the losses in that span were on the road, however, where they own just a 12-12 mark.

The Mavericks earned a 92-81 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday as Dirk Nowitzki scored 21 points.

The Nets have been an easy target for Dallas in recent years. The Mavericks have won 13 of the last 14 meetings between the teams.
