Gay hopes to help Grizzlies end six-game slide

Feb 12, 2008 - 3:04 PM Sacramento (23-26) at Memphis (13-37) 8:00 pm EST

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) - The Memphis Grizzlies will try to avoid their seventh consecutive setback when the Sacramento Kings visit on Tuesday.

Despite getting 26 points from second-year swingman Rudy Gay, Memphis still fell short in Saturday's 112-99 loss to the New Orleans Hornets.

With Pau Gasol having been traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, the 6-7 Gay has relished in his role as the go-to guy, averaging 23.1 points and 8.4 rebounds in his last seven games

Memphis' Darko Milicic is also starting to flash his offensive game of late. The No. 2 pick in the 2003 draft, Milicic has reached double figures in four of his last five outings.

With Mike Bibby, Ron Artest and Kevin Martin all sidelined with injuries, Sacramento was still able to come away with a 116-113 triumph in the first meeting against the Grizzlies on January 10.

The Kings are looking to bounce back in this one after dropping the first stop on their four-game road trip, a 105-102 decision at Golden State on Saturday.

"It's tough to beat them in this building. We were right there with them at a time where we're peaking as a team," Artest said. "The growth is showing a lot."
