Streaking Sixers await lowly Grizzlies
Feb 13, 2008 - 11:22 AM Memphis (14-37) at Philadelphia (22-30) 7:00 pm ESTPHILADELPHIA (Ticker) - Winners of four games in a row, the Philadelphia 76ers are thinking about hanging on to their point guard.
Andre Miller looks to lead the Sixers to a fifth straight win when they host the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday.
Miller was considered a prime candidate to move at the trade deadline with a contract that expires after next season. But Philadelphia's recent success and Miller's inspired play has the club intending to keep the veteran.
Named the Eastern Conference player of the week last week, Miller is averaging 20.3 points and nine assists in six games this month. Miller scored 21 points and dished out seven assists in leading the Sixers to an 84-76 victory over the visiting Dallas Mavericks on Monday.
The Grizzlies snapped a six-game slide Tuesday with a 107-94 victory over the Sacramento Kings. Hakim Warrick scored 24 points to lead six players in double figures for Memphis.
It was the Grizzlies' first win since the club shipped franchise center Pau Gasol to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for rookie Javaris Crittenton, the expiring contracts of Kwame Brown and Aaron McKie and a pair of draft picks.
Brown played just two minutes - grabbing one rebound - in Tuesday's win, while Crittenton spent the entire contest on the bench.
Memphis is 6-14 against Eastern Conference teams this season, including a 99-97 setback against Philadelphia on December 22. Miller scored 29 points to lead the Sixers in that win.
