Mavericks will look to claim first win against Warriors

Nov 6, 2006 - 3:46 PM Golden State (1-2) at Dallas (0-2) 8:30 pm EST

DALLAS (Ticker) -- The Dallas Mavericks started 0-2 for the first time since 1993. On Monday, they will look to live up to their lofty expectations.

The Mavericks will try to collect their first victory of the season when they host the Golden State Warriors.

In their first appearance in the NBA Finals last season, the Mavericks lost the final four games against the Miami Heat. Despite being picked as one of the best teams in the Western Conference, their losing streak has continued into the early portion of 2006-07.

Dirk Nowitzki scored 24 points and Josh Howard added 16 for Dallas, which lost its second straight contest to an in-state rival with a 107-76 loss to the Houston Rockets on Saturday.

The Rockets started the game with a 12-0 run to bury the sluggish Mavericks. Dallas also finished poorly, as they were outscored, 32-15, in the fourth quarter.

Golden State has struggled to start Don Nelson's second stint as coach in the Bay Area, absorbing their second loss in three games with a 106-82 setback at Utah on Saturday.

Troy Murphy, Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Ike Diogu scored 12 points apiece for the Warriors, who shot 38 percent (28-of-73) and surrendered 22 second-chance points.

The Mavericks went 34-7 at home last season, but lost both of their contests against Golden State here.
