Grizzlies trying to end dismal stretch

Feb 20, 2008 - 1:48 PM Memphis (14-39) at LA Clippers (17-33) 10:30 pm EST

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) - The All-Star break did little to help the Memphis Grizzlies turn around their forgettable season.

The Grizzlies try to end a two-game losing streak when they visit the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday.

Memphis, the second worst team in the Western Conference, has lost eight of its last nine games, including a 108-101 setback to the Seattle SuperSonics on Tuesday. Rudy Gay scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Grizzlies while Hakim Warrick added 22 points.

The Clippers, like Memphis, also are looking to win on a more consistent basis in the second half after alternating wins and losses in their last six games.

Rookie Al Thornton scored 24 points and pulled down nine rebounds but it wasn't enough to send Los Angeles into the break with a win as the Clippers suffered a 91-89 setback to the Washington Wizards last Wednesday.

Thornton, who is averaging 10.5 points per game this season, has scored at least 18 points in five of his last seven games.
