Kidd looks to get on track when Mavericks visit Grizzlies

Feb 22, 2008 - 1:47 PM Dallas (35-19) at Memphis (14-40) 8:00 pm EST

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) - Jason Kidd didn't make the first impression he had hoped for during his debut with the Dallas Mavericks.

Kidd and the Mavericks try to end a two-game losing streak on Friday when they visit the lowly Memphis Grizzlies.

Kidd, acquired by the Mavericks from the New Jersey earlier this week, had just eight points, five assists, six rebounds and six turnovers in his Dallas debut - a 104-93 loss to the New Orleans Hornets on Wednesday.

"I caused a couple of breakdowns," Kidd said. "We had one practice (together). We can build on this. I was just trying to get guys the ball instead of just being aggressive. It's a lesson learned."

The 34-year-old point guard is averaging 11.3 points, 10.3 assists and eight rebounds this season.

The Grizzlies continue to plummet toward the bottom of the standings since sending Pau Gasol to the Los Angeles Lakers, falling 100-86 to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday.

Memphis is 1-7 since parting ways with Gasol and to make matters worse, second-leading scorer Mike Miller missed Wednesday's game with a sore back.
