Hawks hoping Bibby will pay dividends

Feb 22, 2008 - 2:04 PM Atlanta (21-30) at Golden State (33-21) 10:30 pm EST

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) - The Atlanta Hawks are hoping the addition of Mike Bibby will help them end a nine-year playoff drought.

The Hawks shoot for their first win with the new point guard on Friday when they visit the Golden State Warriors.

Atlanta, which hasn't made the playoffs since the 1998-99 season, has dropped its first two games since acquiring Bibby from the Sacramento Kings on Saturday.

Bibby scored just five points and three assists in 16 minutes during his debut as the Hawks suffered a 19-point blowout against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday.

Bibby scored 17 points on Wednesday but it wasn't enough to help his new team avoid a sixth straight loss as the Hawks were downed, 119-107, by the Kings.

The Warriors pulled out a thrilling 119-117 triumph over the NBA-best Boston Celtics on Wednesday. Baron Davis led five players in double figures scoring 29 points including the game winning shot as Golden State came back from a 12-point third quarter deficit to record their fourth win in five games.

Davis helped pick up the offense for second-leading scorer Stephen Jackson, who missed the game after spraining his left ankle against the Utah Jazz on Tuesday.
