Wallace out when Bobcats take on struggling Wizards

Feb 23, 2008 - 3:02 PM Charlotte (19-36) at Washington (25-29) 7:00 pm EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) - The Washington Wizards are mired in their worst stretch this season. At least they won't have to face Gerald Wallace during their next game.

The Wizards try to end a two-game losing streak and return to their winning ways on Saturday when they host the Charlotte Bobcats.

Washington has lost 10 of its last 11 games, including a narrow 90-89 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday.

But, the Wizards have claimed a pair of victories over Charlotte earlier this season despite an average of 28.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and five assists from Wallace.

However, the Bobcats will be without their leading scorer on Saturday after Wallace suffering a Grade 3 concussion in the third quarter of Friday's 116-115 overtime loss to the Sacramento Kings.

Wallace exited the game after taking an elbow to the face when Sacramento's Mikki Moore tried to make a spin move underneath the basket with 9:54 remaining in the period.

He remained on the floor motionless for several minutes prior to getting carted away on a stretcher and taken directly to the hospital where tests revealed no fractures and no bleeding.

Wallace, who just re-joined the club on Tuesday after missing three straight games with a sprained ankle, entered averaging a career-best 20.9 points and 2.3 steals through 48 games.
