Former NBA star Allen claims he was "catfished"
Nov 22, 2017 - 12:42 AM Former two-time NBA champion and 10-time All-Star Ray Allen claims he was stocked and "catfished" by a male stranger online who he says communicated with him while pretending to be several different women.Bryant Coleman told an Orlando court on Monday that he was the one being stalked by Allen. On Tuesday, Allen asked the court in a filing to throw out the case.
"Coleman pretended to be a number of attractive women interested in Ray Allen," the motion filed by Allen's legal team read. "Ray believed he was speaking with these women and communicated with them."
Allen's attorney, David Oscar Markus, said in a statement that Allen pursued legal action in the case to end threats made to him and his family. The filing claims Coleman has continually harassed Allen.
"He posted about Ray's wife, Ray's children, Ray's dog, Ray's homes, Ray's wife's restaurant, and numerous other personal items," it read. "Coleman not only posted about these things, he would actually post while physically located inside Ray's wife's (Shannon) restaurant in Orlando. And he would make sure they knew it, tagging Ray and his wife on those posts."
Through his lawyer, Allen said he regrets engaging in conversation with Coleman and hopes others can learn from his mistakes.
Allen played 18 NBA seasons from 1996 to 2014, averaging 18.9 points and becoming the NBA's all-time leader in 3-pointers made with 2,973. He won a championship with the Boston Celtics in 2008 and the Miami Heat in 2013.
