Gasol, Lakers aim for eighth straight win

Feb 24, 2008 - 6:51 PM LA Lakers (38-17) at Seattle (15-39) 9:00 pm EST

SEATTLE (Ticker) -- The addition of Pau Gasol has the Los Angeles Lakers going in the right direction.

Gasol and the red-hot Lakers will try to push their winning streak to eighth games Sunday when they visit the Seattle SuperSonics in the finale of a three-game road trip.

Gasol scored 23 points and Lamar Odom added 20 and 10 rebounds in Saturday's 113-95 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Since acquiring the 7-foot Gasol from the Memphis Grizzlies on February 1, the Lakers have posted an impressive 8-1 record and moved atop the Western Conference.

"I guess it was a good fit for the team," Gasol said. "I adjusted pretty well and I'm in positions where I am comfortable and can be very effective. I'm out there and know how to play the game, so that makes things easier for me."

In the last meeting, All-Star Kobe Bryant torched Seattle for 48 points on 21-of-44 shooting in helping the Lakers escape with a 123-121 victory on January 14 here.

The Sonics are coming off an impressive 99-87 triumph over the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday behind the efforts of rookie Kevin Durant, who scored 17 points to lead five others in double figures.
