Paul looks to help Hornets end three-game slide
Feb 27, 2008 - 2:17 PM Phoenix (39-18) at New Orleans (37-18) 8:00 pm ESTNEW ORLEANS (Ticker) - The New Orleans Hornets will try to get back on track on Wednesday when the Phoenix Suns pay a visit.
After posting the best record in the Western Conference in the first half of the season, New Orleans has gone just 1-3 since the All-Star break and has dropped into a tie with Dallas for fifth place.
The Hornets latest loss came when DeShawn Stevenson drilled the game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer as the Washington Wizards posted a 95-92 victory in New Orleans on Monday.
"We didn't get stops early in the second half and they scored," Hornets All-Star Chris Paul said. "They got to the line and made shots and they hit a big shot to end the game."
The last time these two clubs hooked up, Paul had 42 points, nine assists and eight steals to upstage two-time MVP Steve Nash in New Orleans' 132-130 overtime triumph on February 6.
Paul, who is a legitimate MVP candidate, has dominated Nash in three games this season with averages of 30.3 points, 9.7 assists and 4.3 steals in three wins over Phoenix.
The Suns are coming off a 127-113 victory over the struggling Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday, behind the performances of Nash and Amare Stoudemire - the duo combined for 50 points.
New Orleans, which had dropped six consecutive meetings in the series prior to this season, is trying to earn its first sweep over Phoenix since the 2001-02 campaign when the franchise was located in Charlotte.
