76ers, Warriors looking to cushion playoff standing

Feb 29, 2008 - 4:41 PM Philadelphia (26-32) at Golden State (34-22) 10:30 pm EST

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- The Philadelphia 76ers and the Golden State Warriors look to cushion their postseason position when they meet Friday.

Philadelphia currently sits in seventh place in the Eastern Conference after claiming a 101-89 victory over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday.

However, the Sixers are just one-half game in front of the New Jersey Nets and 1 1/2 games ahead of the Atlanta Hawks, who are currently clinging to ninth place.

The Warriors managed to move into the postseason picture by recording a 105-99 win over the Seattle SuperSonics on Tuesday, taking a one-half-game lead over the Denver Nuggets for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Monta Ellis scored 30 points and Baron Davis added 20, 10 rebounds and a career-high seven steals to lead Golden State.

Ellis and Davis combined for 53 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists as the Warriors claimed a narrow 100-98 victory over the 76ers during the teams' first meeting on November 24.
