Rockets go for 15th straight win, host Nuggets

Mar 2, 2008 - 2:39 PM Denver (35-23) at Houston (38-20) 8:00 pm EST

HOUSTON (Ticker) - The Houston Rockets hope that the month of March can go nearly as well as February did.

Tracy McGrady will try to lead the Rockets to their franchise record-tying 15th consecutive victory Sunday when they host the Denver Nuggets.

Houston also won 15 straight games from February 13-March 18, 1993 and matched that run by opening the 1993-94 season 15-0 en route to winning its first NBA title.

McGrady scored 25 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out six assists in Friday's 116-95 triumph over the Memphis Grizzles. The 6-8 swingman is averaging 23.1 points and 5.6 assists this season.

Houston will be without center Yao Ming for the remainder of the season but Dikembe Mutombo has filled in nicely thus far. The 41-year-old center grabbed 13 rebounds in Friday's win and has four blocks in each of his last two games.

The Nuggets, who are one-half game behind the Golden State Warriors for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, are seeking their third consecutive victory.

Allen Iverson scored 38 points and fellow All-Star Carmelo Anthony added 30 as Denver defeated the Los Angeles Clippers, 110-104, on Friday.

Iverson leads the club with 26.9 points and 7.3 assists per game, while Anthony has averaged 26.0 points and 7.5 rebounds.
