Carter, Nets try to avoid sweep by Grizzlies

Mar 5, 2008 - 2:20 PM New Jersey (26-34) at Memphis (14-46) 8:00 pm EST

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) - The New Jersey Nets are hoping for a better outcome on the second stop of a Western Conference road trip.

New Jersey tries to bounce back on Wednesday against the lowly Memphis Grizzlies.

In the opener of their five-game road swing, Vince Carter had 19 points to lead the way in Tuesday's 81-70 setback against the San Antonio Spurs, who shot just 33 percent.

Despite the loss, the Nets still hold a one-game lead over the Atlanta Hawks (24-34) for the eighth and final spot in the Eastern Conference standings.

Speedy guard Devin Harris is averaging 18.3 points in three outings for New Jersey since making his debut with the club last week against Milwaukee.

Memphis continued a nine-game slide with Tuesday's 112-97 loss to the Chicago Bulls.

"We don't take a punch very well," Memphis coach Marc Iavaroni said. "We need to have guys step up and make plays when the other team is on a roll."

In the first meeting, the Grizzlies came away with a seven-point victory over the Nets at the Izod Center on November 27.
