Celtics shoot for sweep of Grizzlies
Mar 8, 2008 - 1:54 PM Boston (48-12) at Memphis (15-46) 8:00 pm ESTMEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) - The Boston Celtics attempt to earn a season sweep of the lowly Memphis Grizzlies when they meet on Saturday.
After splitting the series the past four seasons, Boston enters with a chance of claiming a sweep of Memphis since the 2001-02 campaign.
In their first meeting January 4, the big three of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen combined for 66 points as the Celtics held on for a 100-96 win over the Grizzlies.
With a postseason berth already clinched, the Celtics rolled off their fifth straight win with Friday's 116-93 triumph at home against the Chicago Bulls.
The win also saw new face P.J. Brown get his first points of the season, but recent free-agent signing Sam Cassell did not dress and isn't expected to play in this one.
Both players are expected to contribute experience and leadership for the stretch run for Boston.
"It's not just for the basketball aspects, but what they bring as far as experience," Garnett said. "(They're) two of the most poised people I know."
Hakim Warrick had 25 points lead a balanced attack to help Memphis finally put an end to it nine-game losing streak with Wednesday's 100-93 win over the New Jersey Nets.
"I'm just happy to get a win. We needed to get out of that rut," Grizzlies swingman Mike Miller said. "We have been working way too hard, and the coaches have been working way too hard to be losing games."
