Red-hot Celtics battle resurgent Sixers

Mar 10, 2008 - 1:53 PM PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) - The Boston Celtics face the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday looking for their ninth consecutive victory.

The Celtics have won three road games and five at home in the recent run. Boston leads Detroit by 4 1/2 games in the race for the best record in the NBA and are 27-1 against teams with losing records.

Boston is coming off a 119-89 road win over Memphis on Saturday, a game in which Celtics' power forward Kevin Garnett became the 32nd player in league history to score 20,000 career points.

Boston, 21-8 on the road, has won three straight away from home. The Celtics have won their last eight games by an average of 15.8 points.

The Sixers have won seven of their last 10 games to move into seventh place in the East, a half-game behind Washington. Philadelphia has won four straight, including a 119-97 road win over Milwaukee on Sunday. The Sixers are 12-3 since February 5.

"I think our defense has been getting better than it has been," Philadelphia coach Maurice Cheeks said. "That's one of the reasons for our surge."

Boston has won the first two games of the four-game season series between the two teams by an average of 18.5 points.
