Celtics face Sonics looking for 10th straight win

Mar 12, 2008 - 2:31 PM Seattle (16-48) at Boston (50-12) 7:30 pm EDT

BOSTON (Ticker) -- The Seattle SuperSonics would be hard-pressed to find a worse time to face the Boston Celtics.

The Celtics, owners of the NBA's best record, will take a nine-game winning streak into Wednesday's contest with the struggling Sonics.

Seattle has lost five straight games, is 1-9 in its last 10 and is closing in on last place in the Western Conference.

Boston reached the 50-win plateau for the first time in 16 years Monday with a 100-86 victory at Philadelphia.

"It doesn't mean a lot, numbers are numbers," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "You don't get a trophy for getting 50 wins. I guess it's nice, but it's not what we're playing for."

Sam Cassell made his debut for Boston, scoring no points in five minutes. Cassell hadn't played since spraining his right wrist February 20.

Wednesday's game closes out a seven-game road trip for the Sonics, who opened the trip with a 111-108 overtime win over Minnesota on March 2. Seattle is 6-27 on the road and is 8-19 against the East.
