Pistons, Spurs trying to build some momentum

Mar 14, 2008 - 1:31 PM San Antonio (44-20) at Detroit (46-18) 8:00 pm EDT

AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) - The Detroit Pistons and defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs are two of the league's top teams, though both clubs are in a bit of a rough patch at the moment.

The Pistons, who host the Spurs on Friday, are 4-3 in their last seven games and are coming off a dismal performance in a 83-82 loss to Philadelphia on Wednesday.

"We were terrible," Detroit coach Flip Saunders said. "The score isn't reflective of the way we played - we shouldn't have only lost by one point."

The Spurs have lost three of their last four games and three straight on the road, including Wednesday's 100-75 loss at New Orleans.

Detroit, 1-1 on its current five-game homestand, has beaten the Spurs in four of the last six meetings.

"This is a good team. I think, in my opinion, this is one of the teams we'll see in the finals," Pistons' forward Rasheed Wallace said of the club that defeated Detroit in seven games for the title in 2005. "So, it's always a good game with us and San Antonio."
