Suns shoot for fifth straight win

Mar 18, 2008 - 1:39 PM Phoenix (44-22) at Portland (35-32) 10:30 pm EDT

PORTLAND, Oregon (Ticker) - When the Phoenix Suns last met the Portland Trail Blazers, they were struggling mightily. The Suns appear to have worked out their problems.

Phoenix eyes its fifth straight win for the first time in more than three months on Tuesday when it travels to the Rose Garden to meet the Blazers.

The Suns have not won five in a row since November 30-December 7.

In the Suns raced out to a 23-point lead early in the third quarter during their first meeting with the Portland on March 4. Phoenix eventually had to withstand a late rally to win 97-92, improving to 3-4 with Shaquille O'Neal in the lineup.

Phoenix dropped the next two games but has played better since, winning four straight home games, including solid victories against San Antonio and Golden State.

The Suns latest triumph also was impressive, as the team outscored the Sacramento Kings 42-14 in the second quarter en route to a 127-99 win Saturday. Stoudemire had 30 points and 10 rebounds in the win and is averaging 31.7 points and 11.3 boards in his last three games.

Portland, which has alternated wins and losses over its last five contests, opened a three-game homestand Saturday with a 107-96 win over Minnesota.

The Blazers, who are just 17-20 since their 13-game winning streak from December 3-30, were led by LaMarcus Aldridge's 26-point effort. All-Star guard Brandon Roy added 25 points and eight assists.
