Wizards look to slow Magic's drive to Southeast title
Mar 19, 2008 - 1:14 PM Washington (33-33) at Orlando (45-24) 7:00 pm EDTORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) - The Orlando Magic host the Washington Wizards on Wednesday in what could be a prelude to a first-round Eastern Conference playoff matchup.
The Magic have won five consecutive games and are closing in on the Southeast Division title. Washington is in second place, but is 10 1/2 games behind Orlando. A victory over the Wizards will reduce the Magic's magic number to two.
Orlando has won 13 of its last 16 games and has an 8-1 record this month. The Magic trail Detroit by 4 1/2 games for the second-best record in the East behind Boston.
Orlando has won both of the first two meetings between the teams. The clubs close out the four-game season series April 16 at Orlando.
The Wizards are coming off a 105-96 home loss to Atlanta on Monday that dropped Washington back to the .500 mark.
The loss ended the Wizards' three-game winning streak. The game will be the fourth for Washington forward Caron Butler after missing 16 with an injured hip.
