Grizzlies, Timberwolves playing out the string

Mar 19, 2008 - 1:40 PM Memphis (16-50) at Minnesota (16-50) 8:00 pm EDT

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) - The Memphis Grizzlies face the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday with both teams just trying to stay out of last place in the Western Conference.

The teams have identical records of 16-50, meaning playoff possibilities were dashed months ago in the loaded West. The Timberwolves actually come in having some recent success, winning four of six games.

"There are lessons to be learned in these final games, and that's what I'm trying to do here," Minnesota coach Randy Wittman said. "We're not just going to ride this out. We've got to learn and grow."

The Grizzlies have beaten the Timberwolves three straight times, including a 109-80 victory in the first of four meetings this season on December 1. Memphis ended a four-game losing streak on Monday with a 98-80 win over the fading Charlotte Bobcats.

"All of us were sick and tired of being down and not being able to fight back," Grizzlies' guard Mike Conley said. "We wanted to come back and get the lead, stay in the lead and keep moving from there."
